ISO 9001 :  Quality Management System [QMS]

ISO 9001:2015 is an international Standard which is recognized for the Quality Management System. ISO 9001 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 176, Quality management and quality assurance, Subcommittee SC 2, Quality systems.


This fifth edition (ISO 9001:2015) cancels and replaces the fourth edition (ISO 9001:2008), which has been amended to clarify points in the text and to enhance compatibility with ISO 14001:2015.

ISO 9001 specifies requirements for a quality management system that can be used for internal application by organizations, or for certification, or for contractual purposes. ISO 9001 provides an organization with a set of principles that ensure focused, informed, scientific and proven approach to the management of your business activities to consistently achieve customer satisfaction and continually improve operational effectiveness & helps all kinds of organizations to succeed through enhanced customer satisfaction, staff motivation and continual upgrading.

ISO 9001 is by far the world's most established quality framework, presently being utilized by 1,064,000 organizations in 178 countries worldwide, and sets the standard not only for quality management systems, but management systems in general.

The ISO 9000 family is primarily concerned with "quality management". This means what the organization does to fulfils:

  • The customer's quality requirements, and
  • Applicable regulatory requirements, while aiming to Enhance customer satisfaction, and
  • Achieve continual improvement of its performance in pursuit of these objectives. Applies to the process that make and control the products and services an organisation supplies

A quality management system as per the ISO 9001:2015 will provide organization with a set of processes that ensure an ability to think approach to the management of organization.

The system should ensure consistency and improvement of working practices, which in turn should provide products and services that meet customer's requirements. ISO 9000 is the most commonly used international standard that provides a framework for an effective quality management system.
